Fagen begins construction on Hungarian plantA Fagen/ICM corn ethanol plant began construction this week in Eastern Europe. Budapest-based Pannonia Ethanol Zrt., a company developed by Ethanol Europe, has contracted with the U.S. team to build an American-style corn ethanol plant along the Danube River about 50 miles from Budapest at Dunafoldvar, Hungary. The 50 MMgy plant being built adjacent to a Cargill grain handling facility is expected to be completed in mid-2012. MORECellulosic producers comment on RFS2 targetThe comment period has ended for the U.S. EPA’s 2011 proposed renewable fuel standards and it appears that most producers agree that the agency’s proposal to lower next year’s cellulosic biofuels target to between 5 and 17.1 million gallons is an accurate goal. However, several producers submitted comments stating that continued lowering of the RFS2 mandate could severely hamper the expansion of cellulosic ethanol production. MOREAPI has ribbon cutting for prototype plantGeorgia-based American Process Inc. recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Alpena, Mich., location where the company intends to build a demonstration-scale cellulosic ethanol plant. The prototype biorefinery, which will be co-located with a Decorative Panels International hardwood plant, will produce 900,000 gallons of undenatured cellulosic ethanol and about 700,000 gallons of aqueous potassium acetate yearly.
